"Fourth largest U.S. marathon to be held in Washington in October."

Wednesday, September 1, 2010 – In October, Mike Matte will share his inspirational message with Marine Corps Marathon runners and their families, supporters and friends.

As soon as you see Mike Matte enter a room you will feel his energy, enthusiasm and his passion for life. In 1982 Mike was branded “The Marathon CEO” by his first boss and has been turning losers into winners ever since. Today Matte is a transformational leadership coach who runs companies on an interim basis and is passionate about sharing his turn-around secrets and leadership principles.

Matte will share his inspirational message at the 35th Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. Matte is president and owner of Marathon CEO Leadership and author of the soon-to-be-published inspirational book, Marathon Fit To Lead. 26.2 Transformational Leadership Ideas to Help You Run Your Best Life…Now!

Matte will be featured at the Marine Corps Marathon’s Speaker Series presented by Nissan. The series will be held during the Health and Fitness Expo presented by GE at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center October 29 and 30. The Expo is supported by more than 300 military and civilian volunteers and will feature more than 200 vendors with as many as 100,000 runners and their guests expected. The MCM, which got its start in November 1976, is the fourth largest marathon in the United States and the eighth largest marathon in the world.

It is Matte’s lifetime mission to inspire people—and the companies in which they work—to become marathon fit. As a corporate CEO, national keynote speaker and a director of the USA Track & Field Foundation board, he consistently dedicates himself to instilling marathon fitness principles in others.

Throughout his 25-year corporate career, Matte has turned around more than 40 companies and business units through strong leadership, coaching and business skills. A long-distance runner in high school, he received an early congressional appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy where he ran intercollegiate track and cross-country. His active military service included commanding B-52 flight-line squadrons on high alert during the Tehran hostage crisis.

Today, Matte delivers inspirational messages as a public speaker, motivating his audiences to make conscious choices that improve their lives as well as their job performance. He uses the sport of running both literally and metaphorically as he explores the root causes of soaring health costs and mediocrity in the workplace while promoting employee fitness. His inspiring true-life stories are founded in self-discipline, strong character and principled action. “My goal is to get average Americans to stand up and take charge of their marathons,” Matte says.

Matte has completed more than 400 road races, including seven marathons. He lives with his family in Houston. His book is scheduled for publication this month.
